The Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Zero-Carbon and Negative-Carbon Technologies in Deep Mining Areas (hereinafter referred to as the "Engineering Center") was approved in 2022. It focuses on five key research directions: "Carbon Sequestration and Utilization in Deep Coal Seams," "Carbon Storage Technologies in Deep Non-Coal Formations," "Development of Geothermal Resources in Mining Areas," "Simulation and Calculation of Multi-Phase and Multi-Field Coupling in Deep Mining Areas," and "Monitoring and Early Warning for Zero-Carbon and Negative-Carbon Systems in Mining Areas." The center aims to address technical challenges in achieving carbon neutrality throughout the entire lifecycle of mining areas, tackling the high carbon emissions of the coal industry, and promoting the green, safe, and high-quality development of the coal sector.
