The Department of Earth Information Science, relying on the "Earth Information Science" doctoral program and the "Cartography and Geographic Information System" master's program under the provincial key discipline of "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering", undertakes the cultivation of undergraduate, master's and doctoral students in related majors. Currently, there are 11 teachers in the fields of geology, mathematical geoscience, earth information science, remote sensing and geographic information systems, regional planning and resource management, including 1 professor, 7 associate professors, 10 teachers with doctoral degrees, and 6 teachers with overseas visiting, training and academic exchange experiences. The research directions of the teachers cover earth information science, digital earth science, remote sensing and geographic information systems, and geography. At the same time, it has invited Professor Cheng Qiuming, the current president of the International Union of Geological Sciences and a renowned mathematical geologist, Professor Nguyen Xuan Thinh from the University of Dortmund in Germany, and Professor Li Songnian from Ryerson University in Canada as adjunct professors.

In recent years, the teachers of this major have undertaken and participated in more than 50 various scientific research projects, including 14 national and international cooperation science and technology projects such as major national science and technology projects, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Youth Science Foundation. They have also obtained 6 invention patents, 10 software copyrights, published 5 monographs, and published over 100 scientific research papers, some of which have been indexed by SCI and EI.
